Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge #61

Hello again,

I've popped back to share my latest DT card for the Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge, as always the theme is anything Christmas goes.  This time I've gone with a shabby chic look inspired by my mixed media workshops I've attended recently with Julia McNeill!  I'm usually a straight lines and tidy kind of cardmaker so this takes a lot of effort for me even if it looks like I've thrown it together!  I also decided to use some frantage embossing on the trees which we covered in Julia's workshop.  It's a technique I've tried before but not for a while.  I really like the finished effect.

Materials used:
Clear stamp - Woodware
Papers - Marianne - Eline's Berry Christmas
Tree dies - Joy/Noor
Embossing enamel - Stampendous
Cardstock, button and twine from stash

Right that's all for the moment, 'see' you again soon!

Something Different #2

Hello again!

I've hopped back on my blog to share my second 'something different' today, this time a mixed media canvas from Julia McNeill's workshop at Hobbycraft, Inverness last night.  This is my 3rd workshop with Julia having done 2 journalling ones previously.  When I first looked at Julia's finished example I thought to myself I'll never be able to do anything like that but she has such skill and patience and shows you everything in a step by step way that makes you feel at ease with what you're creating.

I really like how it's turned out and love all the little details and the ombre effect background.  I must make friends with my glue gun more, it's something I've very rarely used up to now!

I can't wait for my next 2 mixed media workshops with Julia - the next is tiny art and the following one is mixed media card making.  If you can get to Inverness I'd thoroughly recommend the classes.  For further details see www.jmcdesigns.co.uk

Bye for now,
Shona xx

Something Different #1

Good afternoon,

I've been busy on the PC today catching up with Design Team duties for the challenges I'm part of so I thought I would hop on my own blog and share some other 'stuff' I've been working on recently.  After the up and down year I've had since being diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy last year I decided a few months back that I would accept as many invitations to do things as possible.  In the past I'd been guilty of turning down anything that would take me out of my comfort zone, not just in crafting but in all areas of my life.  So I've been accepting all kinds of invitations and in the spirit of this I decided to take up the offer of a flower arranging class!

Now, although the other half works in a garden centre and is amazingly green fingered, I'm a killer of houseplants and a throw it all into a vase and hope for the best kind of gal.  So I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the floral art class.  The patience and skill of our teacher Bobby from Big Bloomers (what a great name incidentally!) Florists in Nairn made all the difference.  I just love the fact it's been created in a pumpkin and has a Halloween theme, the skull is fabulous!  Please don't ask me to name any of the flowers because the only ones I know are the gerberas and oak leaves!

I'm really happy with how it turned out and I would definitely have another go at floral art sometime.  Yes, it pushed me out of my comfort zone but in a good way.

Have a great weekend, hugs,

Shona xx

Christmas With The Cuties - Personalise it!

Good morning,

This is a scheduled post from me today as sadly I am now back at work after being off for just over a fortnight.  The first week was enforced as I was signed off work due to having further problems adjusting the dosage of my heart meds but thankfully that settled down and I was able to enjoy my scheduled time off in the second week.  It's been nice just to be able to potter around at my own pace and chill out a bit.

As you can see I have some exciting news as I have been lucky enough to be accepted on to the Christmas With The Cuties design team!  I'm delighted to say the least.  This is the sister challenge to the Cutie Pies who I've been with a while and if you're not familiar with it we have a monthly Christmas challenge with the emphasis on all things cute!  Why not join in with our 'Personalise It' challenge and that will be another Christmas card ready in your stash!

For my first CWTC project I've used a gorgeous new release from our sponsor Di's Digi Downloads called Frosty Friends.  I was really lucky to win this on Facebook in a recent competition to name the digi, it's super cute and perfect for the challenge.

I've personalised the card for my Auntie Winnie, I'm sure she will love it!

Materials used:
Digi stamp - Di's Digi Downloads - Frosty Friends
Promarkers
Sentiment stamp - LOTV - Grungy Relatives
Patterned paper - Papermania Capsule Collection - Festive Spots & Stripes

Focus on the Good

Hi Folks,

I've popped on for a late night post to share a card I made this afternoon.  Iona was out at dance class, hubby was working and my aunt was watching another Christmas film so it seemed the perfect time to catch up with some crafting.

The focal point of my card is one of JMC Designs fab digi's Starlight Dakeri from the Cocktail Divas Collection.  I was lucky enough to attend a couple of Julia's Mixed Media Workshops and this amazing digi was in the goody bag I received!  Along with the image I've used some ancient Raspberry Road papers that were a magazine freebie and a vellum sentiment out of a bargain pad from The Works.  This sentiment should be my mantra.  It's all too easy to feel down when you're unwell or feeling frazzled and you forget about all the good things you have in your life.  And there really is a lot of good so that's definitely what I should be focusing on.

Materials Used:
Digi - JMC Designs - Starlight Dakeri
Promarkers
Papers - Raspberry Road Designs - Summer Goodness
Oval Nesting Die - X-cut
Square Nesting Die - Spellbinders
Border Die - Crafter's Companion
Sentiment - M&C Boutique @ The Works - Vellum Quotes
Cardstock, Buttons, Twine, Gems, Braid, etc all from stash

Anyway, I'd better head off to bed soon although I am on holiday this week and can sleep in for a bit in the morning if I want to.  Sounds like a good Monday morning to me and I'm focusing on the good remember!

Hugs,
Shona xx

Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge #58

Good morning,

It's a scheduled post from me this morning to share my DT card for our latest Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge where as always our challenge is 'Anything Christmas Goes'

Just for a change I've used some of my new Stampin' Up goodies to decorate a gift box.  The plain gold box was given to my husband with some sweeties in it but I wouldn't even let him touch the box in case he damaged it, I just passed on the sweeties lol!  The SU Christmas collection is just amazing I've already bought a few things and I have a wish list with several more.  If money was no object I think I'd buy at least one of everything in the catalogue, maybe 2 of some of the lush papers, these are my favourites!

Materials used:
Mini Pizza Box - Stampin' Up
Wrapped in Plaid papers - Stampin' Up
Yummy Christmas clear stamp set - Stampin' Up
Promarkers
Ribbon - Dovecraft
Bell, bow and twine all from stash

That's it from me for the moment.  I'll be back soon and I also have some exciting news to share in the next couple of weeks but more of that in a later post...

Holly & Ivy Challenge #57

Good evening,

I haven't been well for the last week or so so I didn't get around to scheduling my card for this morning.  I've been suffering from low blood pressure since my heart meds got increased which has wiped me out and in the last few days also made me dizzy.  I bit the bullet and went back to the GP today to get the dose reduced so hopefully things will improve soon.  Sadly, we also lost out wee bunny last week he was only a few months old so we are really heartbroken.  RIP Pepper 💔.  September hasn't been the best of months for us so October let's be having you!

Tonight I'm sharing my DT card for the latest Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge as always our theme is 'Anything Christmas Goes' and my card started life as a make and take from a friend's Stampin' Up party I was at recently, but me being me I've added some of my own embellishments to make it more 'me' ie my signature button and twine plus some die cut stars!  It's not my usual style but that's the good thing about going to these parties it gives you new ideas and you look at products in different ways.  I did make ahem one or two purchases so I'm looking forward to those arriving so I can try them out.  They are all Christmas products so look out for them here in the near future!

Materials used:
Designer papers, stamp and ink all Stampin' Up
Star nesting dies - X-cut
Cardstock, button and twine all from stash

Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge #56

Good morning,

A scheduled post from me today because I am more organised than I've been in the last few weeks and thankfully my health is improving again and I've got less going on so I can catch my breath a bit.

We have a new challenge over at The Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge and as always the theme is 'Anything Christmas Goes'.  I'm sure a lot of you must be starting to think about Christmas if you haven't made a start already.  I gave my aunt a hard time for watching a Christmas movie the other day.  It was one of her favourites, Miracle on 34th Street, then I realised that I was a complete hypocrite for laughing at her since I've been making Christmas cards since January.  I did feel a bit of a fool!

Anyway, here's my latest DT card and it's another one to put in my thankfully growing Christmas pile.  It's a simple design to do justice to all the detail in the gorgeous Sizzix die I've used.  I think I might make a few similar cards in different colour schemes it's such a simple but effective design.

Materials used:
Sizzix Die - From Our Home To Yours
Paper - Love to Craft - Krafty Christmas
Cardstock, ribbon, twine and button all from stash

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hugs,
Shona xx

Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge #55

Good Afternoon,

Wow it's been ages since I got a chance to get on here.  It's been a combination of things getting in the way.  First my daughter's birthday, then my 50th and then I've been ill with a bad cold that's got into my chest, I'm just starting to feel better now.  Work has also been quite busy and I'm also struggling to get on Blogger with my new (actually my daughter's old) phone as it keeps reverting to a different Google account.  It just feels like everything has been conspiring against me, oh well you've got me now, for a wee while at least!

First of all I'm sharing my DT card I made for the last Holly & Ivy challenge which unfortunately has now ended.  I thought I would get in there before it finished as the new challenge doesn't start until Tuesday but it's already closed.

For my card I used papers and a topper which were freebies from Making Cards Magazine.  This is definitely my favourite magazine just now as they always have fantastic freebies as well as interesting articles and great inspiration.  I've only had to add some cardstock to mat & layer, ribbon, buttons and a sentiment and job done!  I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out.

Materials used:
Papers and topper - Making Cards freebies
Sentiment - LOTV
Cardstock, ribbon, buttons & twine from stash

That's all from me for now, I've just taken another coughing episode so I'm away to get a hot drink to soothe it.

Craft hugs,
Shona xx

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun with the Cutie Pies

Good afternoon,

I know, I often say it but I'm a bit late with this post!  It's been a mad week at work and my health has taken a bit of a dip at times again so I've been battling exhaustion.  Yesterday was almost a write off, I couldn't keep my eyes open!  I'm hoping to get a cortisone injection into my (frozen) shoulder in around a week so if that works I might be able to drop the tablet I'm taking at night to help me sleep through the pain which is contributing to the tiredness.  Fingers crossed it all works out.

Anyway back to my DT card.  Our theme this month at the Cutie Pie challenge is Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun and we are sponsored by Polka Doodles who are a new sponsor to us and have a fantastic prize lined up for our lucky winner!  The DT are very excited to work with Polka Doodles as they have loads of gorgeous and super cute images to choose from!  As soon as I saw this image Big Cheer - Sparkle Unicorn I knew it would be perfect.  My daughter is a cheerleader and although she's grown out of the unicorn phase I know this image will be popular with her younger friends.

Materials Used:
Digi Stamp - Polka Doodles Big Cheer Sparkle Unicorn
Promarkers
Sentiment Stamp - Personal Impressions
Patterned Paper - Dovecraft Over The Rainbow
Cardstock, ribbon, buttons & twine from stash

Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge #51

Hello,

A bit of a late post from me to share my card for the current Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge where as always we are running an anything Christmas goes challenge.  It's been a hectic few weeks of extra practice and weekends away with my daughter's dancing and cheerleading and I've been feeling a bit frazzled with it all.  Work is also beginning to get busier as it always does around this time of year so I'm a bit more tired than usual.   Just keeping on going as best I can though and trying to make some time to craft and blog.

Anyway, back to my card and this time I've used a fab digi stamp from Bugaboo, I was lucky enough to join their DT as a guest designer last month and it's made me love their designs even more than ever!  I love this cute and quirky looking penguin, especially it's eyes!

Materials used:
Digi Stamp - Bugaboo
Promarkers
Paper - Dovecraft Back to Basics Christmas (Modern)
Sentiment Stamp - LOTV
Cardstock, buttons & twine from stash

I'm popping back again with another post so see you soon.

Materials used:
Digital Stamp - Bugaboo Flower Teapot
Promarkers
Designer Papers - Trimcraft First Edition Storyteller

Anyhoo, that's all for now, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

That's all for now, my daughter and I are heading South to Glasgow this afternoon for a weekend at Cheer Comp (and some shopping hopefully), heading back Sunday night just in time for work and school on Monday!  Hubby and Auntie Winnie are holding the fort at this end while we're away.

Humour Me Wednesday at Catch the Bug

Hello!

Another scheduled post from me - I'm impressed at how organised I'm becoming!  I'm here to share my latest Guest DT project for Bugaboo Digi Stamps at Catch the Bug.  I've joined them for Humour Me Wednesday where we celebrate the week's most weird and wonderful holidays!

Humor Me Wednesday!

My card celebrates World Goth Day on the 22nd of May!

I've used a fab Bugaboo image called Girl Skelekinz 01 and coloured it with Promarkers.  There's lots of fab Skelekinz digis in the shop if you like all things Goth.  It was great to get a change away from my usual cute and cuddly cards, although I still think it has a good bit of cuteness about it!  I've distressed all the edges to give the card a more edgy feel.  I don't have a tool for distressing, although I believe you can purchase them, I get by with carefully running the open bladed edge of a small scissors along the edge of the card or paper.  I picked up this tip from the Create and Craft Channel when I first started crafting and it's one that's stuck!

Materials used:
Bugaboo Stamps Digi - Girl Skelekinz 01
Promarkers
Designer Papers - Gorjuss
Heart Die - Marianne
Cardstock, button, twine and letter stickers from stash

Be sure to come and visit us at Catch the Bug to see what holidays the other DT members will be celebrating this week!

Hugs,
Shona xx
